Hotel meets real estate industry

What does a hotel actually cost and who usually buys something like this? These and other questions were addressed by the students in the "Hotel Development" module of the "International Hotel Management" study programme taught in German and English.

The theoretical input was given by SRH graduate Sandra Kusterer, who is currently working as an Analyst Hotel Services at BNP Paris Real Estate GmbH. She accepted an invitation of programme director Prof. Dr. Hartwig Bohne.

After Sandra Kusterer gave an overview of the German hotel investment market, she showed various ways in which hotel operators and hotel buildings meet and how the respective properties can be presented in a way that attracts buyers. Before BNP Paris Real Estate GmbH accepts a brokerage contract, a feasibility analysis is carried out to determine whether it is lucrative. In addition, she explained to the students which aspects are taken into account.

Afterwards the students became active. In several groups, the cities of Hamburg, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Lisbon and Düsseldorf examined and analysed the respective hotel market locally, the location and the infrastructure. Afterwards, they were able to make recommendations as to which hotel chain they would offer a property in the respective city at what purchase price. "For the students this was again an exciting insight into possible fields of activity and an impressive example of our practice network," said initiator Prof. Dr. Bohne.
